A Large-Scale Analysis of Persian Tweets Regarding Covid-19 Vaccination

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

The Covid-19 pandemic had an enormous effect on our lives, especially on people's interactions. By introducing Covid-19 vaccines, both positive and negative opinions were raised over the subject of taking vaccines or not. In this paper, using data gathered from Twitter, including tweets and user profiles, we offer a comprehensive analysis of public opinion in Iran about the Coronavirus vaccines. For this purpose, we applied a search query technique combined with a topic modeling approach to extract vaccine-related tweets. We utilized transformer-based models to classify the content of the tweets and extract themes revolving around vaccination. We also conducted an emotion analysis to evaluate the public happiness and anger around this topic. Our results demonstrate that Covid-19 vaccination has attracted considerable attention from different angles, such as governmental issues, safety or hesitancy, and side effects. Moreover, Coronavirus-relevant phenomena like public vaccination and the rate of infection deeply impacted public emotional status and users' interactions.

STONYBOOK: A System and Resource for Large-Scale Analysis of Novels

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Books have historically been the primary mechanism through which narratives are transmitted. We have developed a collection of resources for the large-scale analysis of novels, including: (1) an open source end-to-end NLP analysis pipeline for the annotation of novels into a standard XML format, (2) a collection of 49,207 distinct cleaned and annotated novels, and (3) a database with an associated web interface for the large-scale aggregate analysis of these literary works. We describe the major functionalities provided in the annotation system along with their utilities. We present samples of analysis artifacts from our website, such as visualizations of character occurrences and interactions, similar books, representative vocabulary, part of speech statistics, and readability metrics. We also describe the use of the annotated format in qualitative and quantitative analysis across large corpora of novels.

Science and engineering for what? A large-scale analysis of students' projects in science fairs

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Science and Engineering fairs offer K-12 students opportunities to engage with authentic STEM practices. Particularly, students are given the chance to experience authentic and open inquiry processes, by defining which themes, questions and approaches will guide their scientific endeavors. In this study, we analyzed data from over 5,000 projects presented at a nationwide science fair in Brazil over the past 20 years using topic modeling to identify the main topics that have driven students' inquiry and design. Our analysis identified a broad range of topics being explored, with significant variations over time, region, and school setting. We argue those results and proposed methodology can not only support further research in the context of science fairs, but also inform instruction and design of contexts-specific resources to support students in open inquiry experiences in different settings.
